Anti-corruption and Awareness Program

The Chatsworth informal traders co-operative together with the Ethekwini municipalities City integrity and investigation unit successfully hosted an anti-corruption and awareness program today the 14th of August 2023.

The program dealt specifically with the retail markets in particular the EThekwini municipal retail markets by-law and the allocations policy amongst others.

Individuals who felt that their rights may have been adversely affected or may have been unfairly discriminated against during the application process were informed of the proper channels and procedures when apply for a trading site and how to report any irregularities or grievances to the CIIU.

In December the leadship of the Chatsworth Informal Traders Co-operative attended the launch  of a new guide for street traders in eThekwini. The guide by the South African informal traders forum – SAITF,  SERI and Southern African Human Rights Defenders Network (Southern Defenders)  explains the rights of informal traders and the laws and policies that protect them”.

The Leadership of the Chatsworth Informal Traders Co-operative met with officials from the eThekwini municipality to discuss how we could work together to support and develop the local economy, informal trader, and retail markets.

2022 SEDA Flood Relief Grant

On the 12 of August 2022, the leadership of the Chatsworth Informal Traders Co-operative assisted applicants by submitting their application forms for the 2022 SEDA flood relief grant on behalf of those Informal Traders who were affected by the recent floods.

Mandela Day 2022

The CITC leadership and members visited the Cheshire Home in Bayview for disabled kids to deliver Donated items that the home was in desperate need of as part of our Mandela Day 2022 initiative. Leadership of the Chatsworth Informal Traders Co-operative met with officials from the Small Enterprise Development Agency’s provincial office to discuss a number of issues affecting small and informal businesses in Chatsworth, and how we could work together to assist them both with programs and access to funding to develop and grow their businesses and the sector as a whole.
